About the position

The Comptroller's Office is seeking a motivated and self-driven Linux System Administrator V to join their team. This role involves working with traditional and hyperconverged server technologies, virtualization platforms, and managing Authentication and Access Control systems. The position focuses on maintaining, documenting, and improving internal IT services and policies while ensuring systems meet high security standards. The successful candidate will collaborate with team members to diagnose complex infrastructure issues and automate routine processes, with opportunities for growth and leadership within the agency's IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and document operating procedures for technical support, troubleshooting, maintenance, and systems administration techniques.
  • Coordinate, plan, and schedule the installation of new or revised systems, defining business process requirements.
  • Conduct training for staff prior to system implementation and provide guidance during and post-implementation.
  • Recommend systems technology solutions and enterprise-related hardware and software standards to management.
  • Assist with budget recommendations for operating systems, including supporting hardware and software.
  • Prepare disaster recovery plans, including responsibilities and procedures.
  • Create and provide regular and ad-hoc reports for supported systems and applications.
  • Analyze current server environment and recommend system changes for efficiency and performance.
  • Create automation routines using scripting and other programming languages.
  • Oversee troubleshooting and solving complex problems related to system software and hardware incidents.
  • Monitor systems, subsystems, and software applications, gathering data for performance tuning.
  • Participate in a rotating 24x7 on-call schedule and disaster recovery testing.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and administer servers, operating systems, and applications.
  • Maintain Authentication and Access Control systems and accurate Change Management workflows.
  • Create and maintain documentation of current environments and application/server security.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in systems administration and design work.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a RedHat Linux Server environment.
  • Three (3) years of experience troubleshooting server hardware, software, application performance monitoring, and capacity planning tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or Management Information Systems.
  • Five (5) years of experience in systems analysis and/or Linux systems administration and virtualization technologies (VMware).
  • Experience with automated operations and tools for centralized management of servers including Satellite, Scripting, and Ansible Automation Platform.
  • Experience in disaster recovery tests and related activities.
  • Experience with DELL Server Hardware and Nutanix Hyperconverged Hardware.
  • Basic understanding of cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Basic understanding of Active Directory, DNS, and PKI Certificates.
  • Windows OS experience.
