About the position

The Comptroller is responsible for coordinating various activities within the Finance Department to ensure efficient and effective operations. This role involves overseeing financial accounting activities, preparing financial reports, and assisting with budget planning and monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates financial accounting activities of Finance Department.
  • Reconciles monthly bank statements, including the centralized bank account, for the District.
  • Prepares journal entries to various funds as needed and reviews entries prepared by others before input.
  • Reviews deposits made at District level into financial system before posting.
  • Prepares quarterly reporting of SDAC (Medicaid administrative claiming) for the State Department of Education.
  • Assists Director of Financial Services with external auditor requests for annual audit, and assists with reviewing of draft financial statements.
  • Meets with various project coordinators to assist with planning budgets and monitoring budgets to avoid deficit spending.
  • Assists with the input of approved budgets for various funds in the District's financial system.
  • Assists with various budget analysis and grant claim preparation for federal and state grants.
  • Monitors and reports on unclaimed property.
  • Performs special duties assigned by the Director of Financial Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in school or governmental accounting, with school district experience preferred.
  • SC School Business Associate Certification required, or ability to obtain within two years.
  • Knowledge of current computing technologies and applicable software applications.
