About the position

The Accounting Manager position at a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Greensboro is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, including financial reporting, payroll processing, grant invoicing, and budgeting. This role plays a crucial part in safeguarding the agency's assets and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and audit standards. The Accounting Manager will also be a member of the Leadership Team and report directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements including balance sheet and profit and loss statements.
  • Maintain quarterly financial dashboard.
  • Assist in preparation of annual budget and related monthly spending analysis reports.
  • Ensure all general ledger accounts are reconciled monthly.
  • Develop and maintain fiscal records, accounting policies and procedures.
  • Generate master grant allocation worksheet in accordance with federal and state funding sources.
  • Generate monthly billing summaries for government and corporate grants and contracts.
  • Complete timely monthly-end close including labor and non-labor allocations, reconciliation of cash investment and credit card accounts.
  • Prepare billing invoices in accordance with grant budgets.
  • Review all payroll deductions for group insurance, garnishments and other non-tax payroll deductions bi-monthly.
  • Process payroll and execute transactions of retirement account deposits.
  • Monitor compliance with government funders and audit standards.
  • Support annual audit; prepare supporting schedules and related documents.
  • Prepare budgets for grant proposals.
  • Prepare supporting documents for annual tax returns (Form 990, CA Form RRF-1, Form 1099 - NEC and 1096).
  • Supervise part-time bookkeeper.

Requirements

  • Minimum of BA degree in accounting/CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in nonprofit or public accounting.
  • Experience with personnel, property and internal control procedures.
  • Knowledge and implementation of GAAP.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to train other staff.
  • Ability to motivate and supervise staff effectively.
  • Strong skills with computerized financial accounting systems.
  • Alignment with the agency's mission and philosophy.
