About the position

The Computational Scientist role at Thermo Fisher Scientific involves contributing to research and innovation in scientific computing within the Advanced Technology Group. Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement computational models and simulations to analyze complex physical interactions.
  • Develop and optimize algorithms for large-scale simulations, ensuring computational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with teams from various departments to gain a comprehensive understanding of project requirements and define technical objectives.
  • Analyze and interpret simulation data, providing insights and recommendations to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Integrate data from multiple sources to refine models and improve the accuracy of simulations.
  • Create and deliver technical reports, research papers, and presentations to individuals both within and outside the organization.
  • Lead and mentor junior team members, encouraging a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Manage projects or sub-components of projects in alignment with the group's technology roadmap.
  • Participate in the development of intellectual property, including invention disclosures and patent applications.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in computational physics or a similar role.
  • Proven leadership experience, including project management and team mentorship.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
  • Strong background in numerical methods, algorithms, and data analysis techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective collaboration and teamwork abilities, fostering a harmonious work environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing simulations for complex physical systems.
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and their application to computational physics.
