About the position

The Civil Design Technician/CADD Operator is responsible for the preparation of studies, engineering calculations, design, and drafting of General Civil Engineering Projects. This role involves working with stormwater management systems, sanitary sewer systems, and water distribution calculations, among other tasks, using Computer Aided Drafting software such as Autodesk Civil 3D. The position requires collaboration with clients and regulatory agencies, as well as quality control checks of work produced by other professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare design calculations for stormwater management systems, hydraulic and hydrology calculations, force main/lift station calculations, sanitary sewer pipe sizing, and water distribution calculations.
  • Provide Computer Aided Drafting (Autodesk Civil 3D) of construction plans, site plans, and exhibits.
  • Prepare correspondence and attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and utility companies to obtain and provide necessary data for projects.
  • Prepare permits for regulatory agencies to allow for the completion of studies and projects.
  • Conduct quality control checks of work produced by engineers, technicians, design/drafters, and administrative assistants.
  • Assist Project Coordinators in correspondence related to various projects and clients.
  • Complete field visits to project sites to confirm project understanding.
  • Attend work-related professional seminars.
  • Perform construction administration services, including preparation of quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, bid specifications, and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate efforts of sub-consultants such as surveyors, environmentalists, and geotechnical services for engineering/construction plans.

Requirements

  • Experience with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software, specifically Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations related to stormwater management, sanitary sewer systems, and water distribution.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in environmental studies and shop drawing review.
  • Familiarity with project management responsibilities.
