About the position

The Computer Associate I-III/Computer Specialist I-IV (Operations) position at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) involves providing technical support and managing telecommunication-related contracts in accordance with NYCT's standards, guidelines, and codes. The selected candidate will oversee the entire process from design to commissioning, ensuring that all division and stakeholder requirements are met. This includes the management of various telecommunication systems such as Public Announcement, Fire Alarm, Access Control, CCTV, Wireless Radio, PSLAN, Help Point, Fiber and Copper infrastructure, Layer 2/3 Network, PBX, Emergency Alarms, and Head End Hardware and Software Applications. The role requires the candidate to support installation and upgrades, troubleshoot issues, configure data, monitor systems remotely, maintain documentation, and conduct testing, analysis, and reporting. In addition to technical responsibilities, the position also involves collaboration with EMD's Contract Compliance staff, providing technical support, training, and knowledge transfer as needed. Candidates must possess a strong background in computer operations and telecommunications, with a focus on ensuring that new assets are transitioned to operations with the necessary resources for maintenance. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity and functionality of the MTA's telecommunication systems, which are essential for the smooth operation of public transportation services in New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Manage telecommunication-related contracts under NYCT's standards, guidelines, and codes.
  • Oversee the process from design to commissioning, ensuring stakeholder requirements are met.
  • Support installation and upgrades of telecommunication systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to telecommunication systems.
  • Configure and provision data for telecommunication systems.
  • Conduct remote monitoring of telecommunication systems.
  • Maintain and update documentation for telecommunication systems.
  • Perform testing, analysis, and reporting on telecommunication systems.
  • Provide technical support, training, and knowledge transfer as required.

Requirements

  • A certificate from an accredited technical school with a specialization in computer operations and two years of satisfactory full-time computer operations experience, or two years of satisfactory data communications network experience in a mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years of satisfactory full-time experience in computer operations or data communications network experience.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in computer operations or data communications network experience.
  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with at least two years of full-time experience in computer operations or data communications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience and understanding in telecommunications systems.
