About the position

The Computer Associate I-III/Computer Specialist I-IV (Software) position at New York City Transit involves the upgrade, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of software and embedded firmware for various public address and customer communication systems. The role requires collaboration with multiple departments and the execution of test plans, problem resolution, and technical support for operations staff. This position is critical in ensuring the reliability and performance of technology systems within the transit environment.

Responsibilities

  • Upgrade, maintain, test, and troubleshoot software and embedded firmware for Public Address systems and related technologies.
  • Develop and execute test plans and procedures for maintenance of hardware and software assets.
  • Install and upgrade software and systems as needed.
  • Resolve problems and perform diagnostics on software issues.
  • Maintain and update documentation related to software and systems.
  • Conduct testing and analysis of systems and software.
  • Liaise with in-house maintenance groups and user departments for support and coordination.
  • Provide technical support, training, and knowledge transfer to operations staff.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with 24 semester credits in computer science or a related field and one year of satisfactory full-time computer software experience; or a four-year high school diploma and five years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience.
  • For Computer Specialist roles, a baccalaureate degree with 24 semester credits in computer science and two years of satisfactory full-time experience, including one year in a project leader capacity; or a four-year high school diploma and six years of satisfactory experience, including one year in a project leader capacity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Network design and/or implementation experience.
  • Experience with VMWARE.
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office, Visio, Oracle, and various operating systems (Windows, UNIX, LINUX, QNX).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
