About the position

The Computer Lab Specialist at Emory University plays a crucial role in managing specialized Windows workstations and classroom computers across various libraries and computing centers. This position involves collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance academic technology services, ensuring operational excellence, and providing training and support to student employees. The specialist will also work closely with the Apple Computer Labs Specialist to maintain a consistent user experience across all devices.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, recommend, and implement advanced technologies that support the teaching and learning mission of the University.
  • Consult with faculty to implement system enhancements and modifications.
  • Provide system administration for academic systems and applications to ensure operability of services.
  • Conduct advanced-level troubleshooting to mitigate equipment failures and improve processes.
  • Review and create user guidelines and standard operating procedures for supported hardware infrastructure and academic applications.
  • Evaluate diagnostics and monitoring tools, making recommendations to prevent incidents and outages.
  • Design and implement preventative maintenance processes and procedures.
  • Lead software upgrades and equipment replacements to ensure system operability and compliance with standards.
  • Analyze and share data on repair and maintenance activity to assist with future planning.
  • Research software and hardware systems to build staff competencies and efficiencies.
  • Advise and consult with faculty on best practices in classroom and instructional technologies.
  • Assist in training student staff to provide monitored service levels.
  • Configure and maintain images and systems to ensure computers have up-to-date software and security.
  • Prepare, organize, and deploy hardware upgrades and replacements.
  • Develop and coordinate training sessions for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Partner with vendors and departments on technology design.
  • Administer computers using MECM, Jamf, and/or Apple Remote Desktop.
  • Use remote management tools to deploy software and updates.
  • Maintain security protocols and ensure compliance with OIT policies.
  • Use LabStats to record login and application usage data.
  • Manage deployment and testing of specialized business and statistical software.
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation about workflows and resources.
  • Manage incidents and service requests using ServiceNow.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and two years of experience in supporting computers, mobile devices, and/or video technologies, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
