About the position

The Computer Science Education CTE Teacher at Orange County Schools is responsible for teaching courses in pathways such as Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Python Programming. This role involves planning and providing appropriate learning experiences for students in the Career and Technical Education program, ensuring a conducive environment for their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. The teacher will supervise students, monitor and evaluate outcomes, and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages student involvement in the learning process.
  • Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students.
  • Prepare for classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Guide the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals.
  • Establish clear objectives for lessons and communicate these effectively to students.
  • Plan and utilize instructional methods and resources that motivate students.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and policy.
  • Assist with the administration of policies governing student life and conduct.
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents outside instructional hours.
  • Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers, if applicable.
  • Appraise effectiveness and demonstrate successful application of skills to increase effectiveness.
  • Participate in school management and share responsibilities for the total school program.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Administer and supervise standardized test administrations according to applicable standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in an applicable CTE field.
  • Must hold a valid CTE Teacher's License issued by the state of NC.
  • Must not be on the NCDPI list of teachers no longer qualified to teach.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Extensive knowledge of OCS CTE curriculum and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of documented work experience related to business, industry, or labor.
  • One year working as a CTE instructor in any area.
  • Demonstrated record of achieving Highly Qualified status on evaluations.
  • Spanish speaking.
