About the position

The Computer Scientist - Engineer - Research Engineer - GT Performance Analyst & Methods/Tools Developer position involves supporting the Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) software within the Propulsion & Energy Machinery Section. The role focuses on engineering model development, software testing, and conducting thermal-fluid simulations for propulsion and power generation applications. The successful candidate will work collaboratively in a team environment, providing engineering support to NPSS users and participating in training and technical presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Support Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) software development and testing.
  • Conduct thermal-fluid simulations for propulsion and power generation applications.
  • Develop engineering models and program interfaces for NPSS.
  • Resolve NPSS software bugs in engineering elements, models, and interfaces.
  • Add new modeling capabilities to NPSS as decided by consortium members.
  • Support cycle model efforts for propulsion and energy machinery projects.
  • Document progress through technical presentations and regular meetings with consortium members.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and participate in design and code reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience conducting fluid and thermodynamics analyses of gas turbines or similar systems using software like NPSS, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.
  • 1-2 years of experience developing engineering software or scripts in C++, FORTRAN, Python, or other relevant programming languages.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
  • Must be a U.S. person due to ITAR work.
