About the position

The Computer Scientist - Engineer - Research Engineer - GT Performance Analyst & Methods/Tools Developer position involves working within the Propulsion & Energy Machinery Section to support the Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) software. The role focuses on engineering model development, software testing, and conducting thermal-fluid simulations for propulsion and power generation applications. The successful candidate will also provide engineering support to NPSS users, participate in training courses, and promote NPSS at technical conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Support Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) software development.
  • Conduct thermal-fluid simulations for propulsion and power generation applications.
  • Resolve NPSS software bugs in engineering elements, models, and interfaces.
  • Add new modeling capabilities to NPSS based on consortium decisions.
  • Support cycle model efforts for propulsion, power, and energy machinery projects.
  • Document progress through technical presentations and regular meetings with Consortium members.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in design and code reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience conducting fluid and thermodynamics analyses of gas turbines or similar systems using software like NPSS, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.
  • 1-2 years of experience developing engineering software or scripts in C++, FORTRAN, Python, or other relevant programming languages.
  • A valid/clear driver's license.
