About the position

The Computer Services Technician at Great Basin College (GBC) is responsible for the installation, configuration, and support of operating systems and application software across the main campus in Elko and various satellite locations throughout Nevada. This role involves providing technical support to end-users, maintaining network infrastructure, and participating in technology projects to enhance the efficiency of GBC's computing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and support of operating systems and application software for faculty, staff, and students across all GBC locations.
  • Provide technical support to end-users and colleagues, troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network-related issues.
  • Collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and departments to ensure the seamless operation of computer systems and technology resources.
  • Participate in the maintenance and management of network infrastructure, including servers, switches, and other networking equipment.
  • Conduct routine system maintenance tasks, such as software updates, patches, and backups, to ensure system reliability and security.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of technology projects and initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of GBC's computing environment.
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, including MS Servers and Linux/Suse operating systems.
  • Manage servers in both virtual and physical environments, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Maintain and upgrade various third-party applications used within the college's computing environment.
  • Implement and manage backup and restoration software in a networked environment to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Configure and manage MS 365/Azure services, including user accounts, permissions, and security settings.
  • Administer Microsoft Active Directory Server, including user/group management and group policy configuration.
  • Provide technical support for Microsoft Windows 10/11 Enterprise edition, including troubleshooting and resolving issues.
  • Utilize computer disk imaging software for system deployment and maintenance tasks.
  • Actively participate in college and system-wide committees as appropriate, contributing technical expertise and insights.

Requirements

  • High School graduation and four (4) years of related experience, OR Associate degree and three (3) years of related work experience, OR Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of related work experience, OR Master's Degree and one (1) year of related work experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical individuals.
  • Knowledge of SQL and relational database structures, models, and diagrams.
  • Experience managing server operating systems, including MS Servers and Linux/Suse.
  • Proficiency with maintaining and operating servers in both virtual and physical environments.
  • Experience with managing and upgrading third-party applications.
  • Familiarity with backup/restoration software in a network environment.
  • Proficient in MS 365/Azure configuration and management.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Active Directory Server configuration and management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10/11 Enterprise edition.
  • Experience with computer disk imaging software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to college and system-wide initiatives.
