About the position

The Computer Specialist (SW) I-IV position at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) focuses on web application development and encompasses a range of responsibilities from analysis and design to implementation and maintenance of software systems. This role is critical in ensuring the security and functionality of various applications and systems, with opportunities for independent initiative and judgment across four distinct assignment levels, each with increasing complexity and responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, develop, implement, enhance, maintain, and secure software systems and applications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively.
• Communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Create, maintain, and implement source code for applications and websites.
• Prepare program specifications and diagrams, develop logic flowcharts, and document program development and revisions.
• Supervise units engaged in systems development work, if applicable.
• Coordinate and direct data processing projects organized to plan and implement complex integrated software development projects.

Requirements

• A master's degree in computer science or a related field with 24 semester credits in computer science and two years of relevant experience.
• A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field with 24 semester credits in computer science and three years of relevant experience.
• A high school diploma or equivalent with seven years of relevant experience.
• Experience in project leadership or as a major contributor on complex projects may substitute for some required experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Microsoft Power Platform App development.
• Familiarity with database administration and data communications systems.
• Knowledge of mobile application development.
