The specialist will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing change requests, and acting as a liaison with on-site datacenter operations. The goal is to ensure that incidents are tracked and resolved promptly, thereby minimizing disruptions to the operational workflow. In addition to incident management, the Computing Operations Specialist will engage in infrastructure-related tasks, such as constructing virtual machines and maintaining operational documentation. This role requires a proactive approach to monitoring system alerts and performing routine checks and backups to ensure system integrity and data protection. The specialist will also collaborate with third-party vendors to facilitate repairs and maintenance, ensuring that all operational changes adhere to established protocols. Overall, this position is integral to maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of the computing operations within the IR team, contributing to the overall success of the R&D initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operational changes and incidents, ensuring minimal disruption and adherence to protocols.
  • Perform routine checks and backups to ensure system integrity and data protection.
  • Operate the monitoring facility to manage system alerts effectively, providing proactive support to minimize downtime.
  • Serve as the primary contact for operational incidents, coordinating resolution efforts.
  • Facilitate communication and operations between the organization and datacenter on-site operations.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors for timely repairs and maintenance.
  • Perform infrastructure tasks, including virtual machine construction and maintenance, during operational downtime.
  • Maintain up-to-date operational documentation, reflecting procedures and changes for compliance and reference.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux-based servers and applications.
  • Knowledge of basic TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting.
  • Proven experience in change management and incident resolution.
  • Ability to work on-site in Midland Michigan.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with datacenter on-site operations.
  • Ability to collaborate with third-party vendors for repair facilitation.
  • Experience in infrastructure-related tasks, such as building virtual machines.
  • Proficiency in maintaining up-to-date documentation.
