The COMSEC Manager's primary function is to work within Special Access Programs (SAPs) supporting Department of Defense (DoD) agencies, including HQ Air Force, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and Military Compartments efforts. This position is crucial for providing day-to-day support for Collateral, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and Special Access Program (SAP) activities. The role involves a variety of responsibilities that ensure the security and integrity of communications and information systems used by these agencies. Key responsibilities include conducting secure equipment inventories, inspections, and other COMSEC-related support and oversight functions. The COMSEC Manager will perform the installation of secure telephone equipment (STE) and coordinate the delivery of encryption devices and keying material to Information Technology (IT) specialists who maintain classified networks. Additionally, the manager will administer a Top Secret inventory and document control program to account for COMSEC equipment and materials, ensuring compliance with agency policies and reporting any discrepancies to the government customer. The position also requires the couriering of classified information and authoring receipts for classified materials. The COMSEC Manager must ensure that Automated Information Systems Security requirements related to COMSEC duties are adhered to and that proper physical security accreditation has been issued by designated Program Security Officers for supported facilities. Training personnel in COMSEC procedures and the use of related equipment is also a critical aspect of this role, ensuring that all team members are well-versed in the necessary protocols and practices.
