About the position

The Broadcast Operations Director is a pivotal role within Concacaf, responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of all broadcast productions, including matches, draws, and various Confederation events. This position is focused on achieving a best-in-class standard of production while providing unparalleled service to rightsholders and internal stakeholders. The Director will meticulously manage vendor relationships and the budget to ensure that all productions meet the high standards expected by the Confederation and its partners. In this role, the Director will establish coverage standards for all competitions and events, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and aligning with the Confederation's strategic goals. The position requires determining the most cost-effective and reliable transmission setups for all productions, guaranteeing a 99.9% reliability rate. The Director will also manage procurement and contract processes to select vendors that meet technical and production needs while adhering to budget constraints. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Director will work closely with the production team and external vendors to develop strategies for servicing rightsholders before, during, and after events. This includes coordinating with various departments to ensure smooth operations, from kick-off times to the implementation of VAR technology. The Director will also oversee the creation and execution of on-air graphics packages, ensuring that all productions maintain quality control and consistency. Additionally, the Broadcast Operations Director will be responsible for managing the broadcast operations budget, defining the technology strategy for the Confederation, and establishing an archive management strategy that preserves historical content while exploring revenue generation opportunities. The role also includes expanding The Broadcast Academy to provide training for broadcast professionals, particularly from underrepresented groups, and supporting member associations with broadcast operations procedures and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Establish coverage standards for all competition and event productions based on contractual obligations and the Confederation's strategy.
  • Determine the most cost-effective and reliable transmission setup for all Concacaf productions, ensuring 99.9% reliability.
  • Manage procurement and contract processes to select vendors for technical and production needs, adhering to budget constraints.
  • Work with the production team and external vendors to establish strategies for servicing rightsholders pre, during, and post events.
  • Coordinate with rightsholders and internal teams on decisions regarding kick-off times and tournament schedules.
  • Assist the Football Competitions Division by providing guidelines on standards for stadium broadcasting areas.
  • Collaborate with the Development department to create and implement feeds for match performance analysis.
  • Coordinate with the Refereeing and Competitions departments on the implementation of VAR and information flow to rightsholders.
  • Work with the Media department to establish guidelines for rightsholders and non-rightsholders' access to games and events.
  • Coordinate with rightsholders, clubs, national teams, and internal stakeholders for access, creation, and use of footage around live events.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial department on live event initiatives, including virtual advertising and live performances.
  • Define, coordinate, contract, and execute on-air graphics packages for all events based on brand guidelines and contract needs.
  • Guarantee flawless delivery of live events and additional content to Concacaf's Digital department and other stakeholders.
  • Enforce quality control procedures for all productions to ensure best-in-class delivery and consistency.
  • Work closely with the Digital department to determine best practices that benefit the Confederation's content strategy.
  • Create and manage the broadcast operations budget.
  • Define the broadcast technology strategy and standards to stay updated with industry developments.
  • Establish, manage, and execute Concacaf's archive management strategy for historical preservation and revenue generation.
  • Create and execute additional revenue generation opportunities around Concacaf tournaments.
  • Expand The Broadcast Academy to provide training opportunities for broadcast professionals, focusing on underrepresented groups.
  • Operate and implement Concacaf's content outlets, including its FAST Channel and direct-to-consumer initiatives.
  • Provide support and consultancy to member associations around broadcast operations procedures, technology, and contract negotiations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in broadcast or related field.
  • Expertise in football (soccer) with a solid understanding and passion for the game, particularly in the Concacaf region.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in broadcast operations and production management, with successful projects in the Caribbean, Central America, and North America.
  • Deep technical knowledge of production and transmission, including satellite, IP, fiber, and bundled transmission; remote, cloud production, HDR, and UHD.
  • Excellent understanding of the media market in the Concacaf region; knowledge of territories outside Concacaf is a plus.
  • Experience managing budgets, procurement processes, and vendor relationships.
  • Experience with on-air graphics package technology, from creation to implementation.
  • Strong understanding of sports programming and scheduling for both linear and nonlinear outlets.
  • Excellent business communication skills, both written and verbal; bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, with French or Dutch as a plus.
  • Ability to efficiently produce written materials in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong management skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills to work effectively with partners, internal management, and vendors.
  • Experience working and multi-tasking in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously, both as part of a team and independently.
  • Flexibility to travel nationally and internationally for duties, with an approximate travel requirement of 40%+
