About the position

HII's Mission Technologies division is seeking a Senior Military Planner to join the Joint Staff J7 (JS J-7), Futures and Concepts Division (FCD) located in Suffolk, VA. This role is pivotal in supporting the development of Concepts of Operation (CONOPS) for the Joint Warfighting Concept (JWC), particularly during Joint wargaming and experimentation. The successful candidate will provide subject matter expertise on developing Future Concepts at the Joint Staff or Combatant Command levels, ensuring that these concepts are operationalized through the integration of intelligence assessments and futures projections. The position requires a strong communicator, capable of briefing senior military and government personnel effectively, and the ability to work within a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) on a daily basis. The Senior Military Planner will be responsible for advising senior military and government personnel on methods to develop Future Concepts in support of the JWC. This includes applying extensive technical knowledge and warfighting domain expertise, as well as possessing a comprehensive understanding of related disciplines. The role also involves travel to support senior-level briefings, conferences, working groups, and wargames as required. Candidates should have a background as a senior military planner at the Joint, Combatant Command, or Service level, and be graduates of senior military planning schools such as JAWS, SAMS, MAWS, SAW, or equivalent courses. The position demands a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, with educational qualifications ranging from a Bachelor's degree to a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Provide subject matter expertise on developing Future Concepts at the Joint Staff or Combatant Command levels.
• Operationalize the Joint Warfighting Concept (JWC) through the development of concepts based on futures projections and intelligence assessments.
• Advise senior military and government personnel on methods to develop Future Concepts in support of the JWC.
• Communicate effectively, both written and verbal, and brief at senior military and government civilian levels.
• Work daily in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).
• Travel to support senior level briefings, conferences, working groups, and wargames as required.
• Apply extensive technical, warfighting domain, or AOR-specific expertise.

Requirements

• 15 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's in a related field; 13 years relevant experience with a Master's; 10 years relevant experience with a PhD or Juris Doctorate; or High School Diploma with 19 years relevant experience.
• Graduate of senior military planning schools such as JAWS, SAMS, MAWS, SAW or equivalent planner courses; or have two or more years' experience as an operational planner.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
