About the position

The Conductor position at SIRTOA involves the safe, timely, and proper operation of the Transit Authority's trains in various services. Conductors are responsible for opening and closing doors, making announcements, troubleshooting mechanical defects, and interacting with the Train Dispatcher and Control Center. They also provide flagging protection service duties, assist customers, operate hand-thrown switches, and report unusual occurrences. The role requires physical activities such as walking along electrified trains, responding to audible and visual signals, and lifting heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate trains in revenue, yard, and work train service.
• Open and close doors and make proper announcements to customers.
• Troubleshoot mechanical defects.
• Interact with Train Dispatcher, Supervision, and Control Center.
• Provide flagging protection service duties.
• Assist customers in safely entering and exiting trains.
• Assist in the timely dispatch of trains from key stations.
• Operate hand-thrown switches in the yards.
• Make reports of unusual occurrences.
• Perform related work.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to understand English and speak clearly over radio communications.
• Pass respective examinations related to the craft, including Roadway Worker Protection (RWP), Book of Rules, and Conductor exams.
