About the position

As a Conductor Trainee at BNSF Railway, you will be part of a dedicated team responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of freight across a vast network. This full-time position involves extensive training and on-the-job learning, focusing on managing train operations, adhering to safety protocols, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the rail network. You will work in a dynamic environment that requires flexibility and readiness to respond to various operational demands, including on-call shifts and travel within your designated region.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, receive, and act on information through various devices, monitoring and reporting daily work.
  • Climb on/off equipment, manage hand brakes, connect/disconnect air hoses, and replace broken railcar knuckles.
  • Interpret signals for train movement and judge/control speed and clearance distances.
  • Operate track switches and derails to change train routing and check switch points for proper alignment.
  • Switch and spot cars, determine train make-up, and inspect cars per federal regulations.
  • Monitor track conditions for issues and report on passing train conditions.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work in the US without company sponsorship now and in the future.
  • At least 18 years of age by the start date.
  • Ability to report for duty at the designated work location.
  • Ability to work safely in diverse and extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to work the required shift/hours and meet travel requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to visually distinguish colors and see at night.
  • Ability to differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds and comprehend verbal communication.
  • Ability to use hands and hand tools for various activities.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at various heights.
