About the position

The Connectivity Product Lead Engineer at General Motors is responsible for integrating new telematics and mobile features into GM vehicles. This hands-on role involves working closely with cross-functional engineering teams to develop and validate vehicle components and interfaces, ensuring that new technologies are effectively integrated into the vehicle development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the detailed operation of telematic/back-office/mobile features across multiple ECUs.
  • Verify operation of telematic features that function on ECU/module interfaces such as CAN, Ethernet, LIN.
  • Develop custom SW/HW tools as needed to improve work efficiency and results.
  • Acquire and analyze data logs such as Automotive Ethernet, A2B, CAN, and LIN for root cause identification.
  • Work directly with suppliers to develop, test and integrate interfaces and features.
  • Lead workshops and issue triage efforts with suppliers for feature/interface development issues.
  • Follow-up to ensure issue resolution was performed properly and in a timely manner.
  • Understand system configurations and develop optimal combinations for development and integration testing.
  • Develop integration test execution plans for each SW integration release.
  • Provide fast feedback of requirements and early SW issues to improve spec robustness and SW quality.

Requirements

  • 2+ years' experience with telematics vehicle controls systems engineering, validation or design release.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Demonstrated hands-on validation or development experience with automotive electrical interfaces - CAN, LIN, EAVB, A2B, USB, LVDS.
  • Ability to do hands-on work such as soldering, ECU flashing, vehicle updates, component removal/installation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of wireless communications protocols including Wi-Fi, Cellular, NFC.
  • Detailed knowledge of packet data communication, SMS, TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet.
  • Knowledge of network sniffer tools like QXDM.
  • Understanding of back-office integration concepts as they apply to infotainment/telematics features.
  • Understanding of appropriate systems engineering methods with emphasis on product integrity/safety.
  • Working knowledge of the Vehicle Development Process.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others including global partners.
  • Working knowledge of automotive concepts and comfortable working in and around vehicles.
