About the position
The Conservation Operations Supervisor 1 is a working supervisory role within the Department of Environmental Conservation. The incumbent will oversee a crew, manage daily operations, and ensure compliance with safety and operational protocols. This position requires both fieldwork and administrative duties, including scheduling, reporting, and enforcing time and attendance rules. The supervisor will also assist in emergency response efforts, particularly in storm-related situations, and will be responsible for operating heavy equipment as needed.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a crew and manage daily operations.
- Handle paperwork associated with daily functions, including reports and logs.
- Schedule daily work for the crew and track progress.
- Enforce time and attendance rules for supervised employees.
- Check and submit monthly vehicle and equipment reports.
- Schedule vehicle and equipment repairs and services as necessary.
- Enforce shop safety and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist in storm response and cleanup operations, including operating a dump truck.
- Prepare written reports on crew activities and project progress.
Requirements
- Three years of experience in general construction or maintenance.
- Possession of a valid NYS driver's license appropriate for the types of vehicles to be operated.
- Ability to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Nice-to-haves
- Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements.
- Experience with safety and training protocols.
