About the position

The Conservation Operations Supervisor 1 is a working supervisory role within the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The incumbent will oversee a crew, manage daily operations, and handle associated paperwork. This position requires fieldwork, including responding to emergencies and operating equipment for cleanup and maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a crew and manage daily work schedules.
• Handle paperwork including daily sign-out sheets, biweekly reports, and monthly facility work summaries.
• Enforce time and attendance rules for supervised employees.
• Check and submit monthly vehicle and equipment reports.
• Schedule vehicle and equipment repairs and services as necessary.
• Enforce shop safety and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Assist in storm response and cleanup operations, including operating a dump truck.
• Maintain public fishing rights and boundary line rotations.

Requirements

• Three years of experience in general construction or maintenance.
• Possession of a valid NYS driver's license appropriate for the types of vehicles to be operated.
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.
• Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment.
