About the position

Armand Corporation, an award-winning M/WBE Construction Management firm with over 33 years of experience in the industry, is seeking a full-time Construction Accounting Analyst for a federal construction project focused on complex rail, transit, and other transportation projects in New York and New Jersey. This hybrid position requires candidates to reside in or near the New York metropolitan area. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of full-time accounting experience, particularly in the construction sector. The role involves managing the entire full-cycle accounting process, which includes contract administration, cash management, job cost accounting, and the preparation of financial statements. In this position, the Construction Accounting Analyst will assist with government contract administration by reviewing and analyzing contract terms and conditions, tracking contract modifications and change orders, and ensuring compliance with contract billing and revenue recognition requirements. The analyst will also be responsible for creating and reviewing invoices, ensuring proper GL account selection, and resolving accounting issues with vendors, clients, and subcontractors. Additionally, the role requires accurate reconciliation of cash transactions and effective cash flow management for construction projects. The analyst will maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions for annual audits and ensure that payments for reimbursable operational expenses are properly coded to matching revenue accounts. The position also involves preparing invoices for submission to clients and supporting project management and contracts teams to ensure deliverables are met, along with performing additional duties as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the entire full-cycle accounting process, including contract administration, cash management, job cost accounting, and financial statement preparation.
  • Assist with government contract administration by reviewing and analyzing contract terms and conditions, tracking contract modifications and change orders, and ensuring compliance with contract billing and revenue recognition requirements.
  • Create and review invoices for proper GL account selection, authorization for purchases or billing; resolve accounting issues with vendors, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of cash transactions and effectively manage cash flow for the construction projects.
  • Assist in maintaining fiscal files and records to document transactions for annual audit.
  • Ensure that payments for reimbursable operational expenses are properly coded to matching revenue accounts.
  • Prepare invoices for submission to clients.
  • Support project management and contracts teams to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience; at least 2 - 3 years of construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of principles behind government invoicing, purchase orders, and driving payment required.
  • Experience with SAGE or other relevant software preferred.
  • Understanding of the general ledger, review of journal entries, and maintenance of account reconciliations.
  • Understanding of Governmental Accounting and ability to review and reconcile payment breakdowns are required.
  • Computer literacy including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel is a prerequisite for the position; experience with standard ERP systems is required.
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response.
  • Must be fluent in English (both written and spoken).
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
