About the position

The Construction and Volunteer Supervisor at Renovation Alliance is a pivotal role aimed at enhancing the organization's mission of providing essential home repairs to low-income homeowners. This position focuses on managing and developing the volunteer program, ensuring a positive experience for volunteers while overseeing home repair projects. The supervisor will work closely with construction staff and homeowners to facilitate effective communication and project management, ultimately contributing to the community's well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the role of volunteerism in Renovation Alliance's mission and its community benefits.
  • Develop strong relationships with Renovation Alliance volunteers.
  • Create a volunteer program to enhance volunteer experience and retention.
  • Outreach to new individual volunteers and volunteer groups.
  • Plan and coordinate volunteer events and projects.
  • Coordinate volunteer projects with the RA Ops Committee & RA Repair Crew.
  • Implement safe worksite practices by providing safety training and checks during projects.
  • Prepare project sites by pre-ordering materials and site rentals, and delivering materials as needed.
  • Manage projects including conducting home reviews, preparing work write-ups, scheduling contractors, and completing inspections.
  • Communicate with homeowners to understand their concerns and preferences, prioritizing their needs in repair decisions.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Construction throughout the repair process.
  • Complete light repair and renovation work as necessary.

Requirements

  • Valid Virginia driver's license.
  • Ability to use project tracking databases and communication applications.
  • Ability to manage competing tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter with initiative to prioritize tasks independently.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to engage volunteers.
  • Demonstrates empathy and patience in client services.
  • Effective teaching skills for instructing volunteers in home repair tasks.
  • Prior construction experience preferred, but not required; interest in developing construction skills is essential.
  • Certification in OSHA courses: First Aid, 10-Hour Construction Training, with support available for obtaining certification.

  • Prior construction experience is preferred but not mandatory.
