About the position

The Construction Bookkeeper at H & Z Building & Design Inc. is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate tracking of expenses, processing payroll, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards. This role plays a crucial part in supporting project managers and ensuring the financial health of the company through diligent bookkeeping practices.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately record all project expenses, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment costs using job cost codes.
  • Process and verify vendor invoices, ensuring timely payments to suppliers and subcontractors, and manage AP aging reports.
  • Generate invoices for clients, track progress billings, manage collections on outstanding receivables, and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Calculate and process payroll for construction workers, including deductions and compliance with relevant labor laws.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports, highlighting project profitability and overall company performance.
  • Reconcile bank statements with the general ledger to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies.
  • Assist in the creation and monitoring of project budgets, flagging potential cost overruns to project managers.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant accounting standards and tax regulations.
  • Accurately input financial transactions into accounting software.
  • Work closely with project managers, estimators, and other departments to gather necessary financial information and provide accurate reporting.
