About the position

Zurich is seeking a Construction Casualty Underwriter Level II or Senior Level III for our Commercial Insurance team in our Washington, DC office. This is a hybrid position that requires two days per week in the office. The role will be filled at either the Construction Casualty Underwriter (Level II) or Senior Construction Casualty Underwriter (Level III) level, depending on the selected applicant's experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position. As a Construction Casualty Underwriter Level II or Senior Level III, you will have the opportunity to utilize your marketing and analytical skills. Specifically, you will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business under general direction, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of higher technical complexity, ensuring a high level of service to customers. This is a market-facing position, thus we are seeking someone with a strong sales execution mindset and knowledge of construction casualty policies. Some of the key accountabilities of this role include administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations. You will develop, maintain, and collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business-related needs as appropriate. Building and maintaining relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) in support of business retention and acquisition is crucial, as well as working with customers and distributors to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions. You will support the organization's sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers, and customers, proactively seeking renewal and new account opportunities. Completing detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities and qualifying accounts to meet the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity, will also be part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will make broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area for Level II.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area for Level III.
  • Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
