About The Position

The Construction Crewmember I at Cox Enterprises is responsible for constructing, building, repairing, and inspecting Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) networks to deliver voice, video, and data services to both residential and commercial customers. This role involves coordinating with other utilities for permits and service issues, conducting quality assurance on vendor work, and ensuring compliance with safety and construction standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED and up to 2 years' experience in a related field (utility aerial construction preferred).
  • Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with teams throughout the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerial utility construction preferred.
  • Familiarity with NES construction rules and regulations.
  • Familiarity with state and federal safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs new and rebuilds aerial hardware including strand placement, tensioning, grounding, bonding, guy and anchor installation.
  • Maintains proper spacing from energized conductors and height requirements as per regulations.
  • Lays conduit and installs joint trenches for underground cable while coordinating with other utilities.
  • Repairs and maintains overhead and underground lines.
  • Responds to emergency call-in situations to repair damaged cable lines.
  • Replaces or reroutes cables and splices electronic equipment.
  • Participates in the construction and/or repair of fiber, coax, and copper plant for networks.
  • Coordinates and inspects work done by contract labor.
  • Locates and marks underground cable lines to minimize cable damages.
  • Inspects placement of facilities and work of contract labor, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Uses computerized tools and programs (Oracle) for material coordination and inventory management.
  • May splice, repair, and activate fiber optic circuits and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensures work is performed in a timely and professional manner, meeting all regulations and standards.
  • Obtains necessary construction and utility permits, including traffic plans for projects.
