About the position

The Construction & Development Accountant will manage the financial aspects of large-scale industrial warehouse and multi-family apartment projects. This role is essential for ensuring financial accuracy, managing pay applications, tracking project schedules, and reporting to lenders and limited partners. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in construction accounting and a strong understanding of Texas-specific regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the financial operations for construction and development projects, ensuring alignment with company policies.
  • Manage and process contractor and vendor pay applications, verifying accuracy and compliance with contracts.
  • Monitor and track project budgets, identifying and addressing cost overruns promptly.
  • Collaborate with project managers to track construction schedules and align financial reporting with timelines.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to lenders and limited partners, detailing project costs and performance.
  • Coordinate and prepare draw requests for lenders, ensuring accurate and complete documentation.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, processing invoices timely and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ensure accurate job costing and allocation of costs across multiple projects.
  • Perform regular financial variance analysis to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary financial documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with lender requirements, Texas tax laws, and construction regulations.
  • Manage financial closeout processes upon project completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in construction accounting, focusing on industrial warehouse and multi-family apartment developments.
  • Strong understanding of construction project accounting, including cost tracking and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in construction accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience in managing lender and LP reporting, draw requests, and project budget reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of Texas construction regulations and tax laws.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA or CMA certification is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and construction-specific accounting principles.
