About the position

The Construction Discipline Engineer (CDE)/Civil Field Engineer will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing field construction activities at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina. This position involves planning and providing technical oversight for various construction activities related to procurement, fabrication, installation, modification, and maintenance of systems and components. The CDE will coordinate closely with design agencies to ensure that new designs or design changes are issued in a timely manner. A significant part of the role includes walking down and reviewing designs for constructability, addressing any design problems encountered during construction, and collaborating with Design Engineers to find effective solutions. In addition to design oversight, the CDE will be responsible for inspecting and verifying materials, equipment, and construction workmanship to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and code requirements. This includes coordinating with Quality Control to confirm that installations meet all necessary standards. The CDE will also participate in turnover activities and support the start-up and functional check-out of equipment and systems. A solid understanding of construction engineering principles is essential, as is the ability to apply these principles to real-world field conditions. The role requires experience in preparing computer-based construction work execution plans, including job-specific hazard analyses, such as Asset Suite and Assisted Hazard Analysis or equivalent. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in excavation, shoring, rigging calculations, and the development of lift packages, as well as experience in structural steel fabrication and erection, and concrete placement. Previous experience in generating work execution plans and job hazard analyses is also required. The CDE will be expected to perform material take-offs and support procurement efforts, ensuring that all materials are available and compliant with project specifications.
