About The Position

Kent Construction is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator/Pre-Construction Specialist to join their team in Park City, UT. This full-time role focuses on preparing accurate cost estimates for custom home projects, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of construction management principles, working closely with project managers, contractors, and clients throughout the preconstruction process.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in estimating costs for residential and custom home projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations for custom homes.
  • Ability to interpret architectural plans and specifications accurately.
  • Experience with construction estimating software (Bluebeam, Buildertrend).
  • Strong data analysis and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication with clients, architects, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • On-site experience is a plus.
  • Education related to Construction Management, Engineering or related fields a plus.
  • Drafting and Project Management experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Buildertrend project management software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for custom home projects, including labor, materials, permits, and overhead.
  • Review and understand architectural plans, specifications, and project details.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate conditions that may impact cost estimation.
  • Quantify materials needed for the project, such as lumber, fixtures, and appliances.
  • Obtain and assess quotes from subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Develop project proposals with detailed cost breakdowns, timelines, and scope of work.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, and designers to discuss design changes, material selections, and budget adjustments.
  • Stay updated on material pricing trends, local building codes, and market conditions.
  • Review subcontractor bids to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Identify risks related to site conditions, design changes, and challenges.
  • Maintain and update cost estimation databases, revising pricing strategies as needed.
  • Understand value engineering to offer cost-reducing options and solutions.
