About the position

The Construction Estimator at Zero Impact Solutions is a mid to senior level role focused on providing accurate cost estimates for major construction developments in the renewable energy sector. The estimator will work closely with project managers and construction teams to analyze project specifications, select appropriate materials, and negotiate pricing with vendors, ensuring that all estimates align with financial constraints while maintaining high standards of quality.

Responsibilities

• Collecting all pertinent documents including property plans, technical drawings, and project specifications.
• Studying documentation, meeting with construction project managers, and inspecting the construction site to fully understand work requirements.
• Accounting for all costs and keeping finance informed.
• Deciding on the most appropriate human and material resources for each project.
• Obtaining multiple quotes for resources and selecting the most suitable offers.
• Negotiating with service providers to secure better prices.
• Outlining the work plan to gauge time needed for project completion.
• Performing risk assessments to account for potential deviations from the project plan.
• Calculating an overarching price by accounting for resource use and profit margin.
• Drafting proposals detailing materials, costs, and time frames.
• Updating project management tools such as Field Wire, Smartsheet, and Excel.
• Managing several projects simultaneously and implementing timelines and schedules.

Requirements

• Degree in mechanical engineering, architecture, or similar.
• Qualification in project management is highly advantageous.
• Demonstrable experience as a construction estimator with a deep understanding of Electrical, Concrete, Asphalt, ADA, and other trades.
• Ability to forecast the cost of high-ticket, involved building developments.
• Knowledge of relevant technical and nontechnical documents.
• Exceptional quantitative skills.
• Outstanding research and proposal writing skills.
• Ability to negotiate with seasoned vendors.
