About the position

The Construction Field Engineer at MD&B is responsible for estimating quantities for drilling and blasting bids, conducting field surveys, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure project success. This role emphasizes safety, communication, and leadership while managing project costs and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate quantity take offs for drilling and blasting bids.
  • Conduct field surveys with GPS equipment to establish top of rock elevations.
  • Coordinate with blasters for scope of work evaluation of bid versus actual work.
  • Manage percent complete of invoices and associated costs.
  • Participate in the MDB safety culture by following all company safety policies and practices.
  • Utilize Carlson Takeoff Software for quantity take offs.
  • Communicate with customers to verify quantity take offs and agree on project scope.
  • Maintain accurate job files for all projects.
  • Perform regular job site surveys to assess project completion and costs.
  • Develop and foster customer relationships through professional representation.
  • Provide leadership in job start-up planning and review scope of work with the blaster in charge.
  • Train and guide others to ensure work meets MDB standards and customer expectations.
  • Participate in monthly job status meetings to assist in accurate invoicing.
  • Monitor scopes of work and create change order documents as necessary.
  • Assist Division Manager with owner correspondence and invoicing.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Good communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong analytical skills and computer proficiency.
  • Strong technical communication skills (reading and writing).
  • Organized with a strong sense of priority and commitment to deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain interpersonal relationships.
