About the position

The Construction Inspector at Ghirardelli Associates is responsible for ensuring that construction projects, including roadways, bridges, and public works, are executed according to established plans and specifications. This role involves inspecting construction methods and workmanship, preparing detailed reports, and coordinating with various stakeholders to address construction issues. The position offers an opportunity to work with a skilled team in a supportive environment that values employee growth and community impact.

Responsibilities

  • Attend pre-construction meetings.
  • Prepare a written daily report documenting construction activities.
  • Consult with Resident Engineers, Bridge Engineers, Project Engineers, and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems.
  • Prepare quantity calculation sheets to support monthly progress payments to construction contractors.
  • Coordinate field testing of construction materials and construction surveys.
  • Ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Monitor project phasing and traffic control plans for compliance with safety standards.
  • Observe and inspect ongoing construction work.
  • Perform construction record-keeping activities and recommend payments to contractors.
  • Train and mentor less experienced inspectors on work methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in roadway construction inspection mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Caltrans and Local Agency Standard Plans and Specifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Caltrans or other Public Agency Experience highly desired.
