About the position

The Construction Inspector at Ghirardelli Associates is responsible for ensuring that construction projects, including roadways, bridges, and public works, are executed according to established plans and specifications. This role involves inspecting construction methods and workmanship, documenting daily activities, and coordinating with various stakeholders to address construction issues. The position offers an opportunity to work with a skilled team and contribute to significant infrastructure projects in the City of Long Beach.

Responsibilities

  • Attend pre-construction meetings.
  • Prepare daily reports documenting construction activities, including contractor labor, equipment, and project progress.
  • Consult with engineers and contractors on work progress and construction problems.
  • Prepare quantity calculation sheets for monthly progress payments to contractors.
  • Coordinate field testing of construction materials and surveys.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and project phasing plans.
  • Observe and inspect ongoing construction work.
  • Perform construction record-keeping activities and recommend payments to contractors.
  • Train and mentor less experienced inspectors.
  • Document work progress and issues throughout the project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in roadway construction inspection.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with construction inspection techniques for various infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as CalOsha and SWPPP.

Nice-to-haves

  • Caltrans or other Public Agency Experience.
  • Knowledge of Caltrans and Local Agency Standard Plans and Specifications and Greenbook.
