About the position

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is seeking undergraduate students for an internship in the construction field. This position offers hands-on practical experience, allowing interns to assist project teams in managing construction projects from bidding to final completion. Interns will have the opportunity to work in both office and job site environments, with potential relocation to remote sites as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist project teams in managing construction projects from bidding to final completion.
• Learn engineering and technical aspects of projects in the field and office.
• Perform quantity take-off and layout tasks.
• Conduct preconstruction and as-built surveys.
• Review and maintain shop drawing logs.
• Review and maintain submittal logs.
• Review and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) and maintain logs.
• Respond to subcontractor RFIs.
• Interface with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Attend weekly progress meetings.
• Assist in coordinating work between the owner, architect, and subcontractors.
• Assist during the bid process.
• Review construction documents and specifications.
• Review all document revisions and clarifications.
• Maintain field records.
• Assist with estimates, budgets, value engineering, and constructability surveys.
• Write contracts and purchase orders.
• Prepare billings to owners and submit change orders.
• Approve invoices and assist with ordering and expediting materials.
• Assist with scheduling and updates.
• Assist with quality control and safety measures.
• Assist with settling contracts and the permit process.
• Perform costing, scheduling, estimating, and project management tasks.
• Assist with punchlist and project closeout activities.
• Cooperate and work with field project management.
