About the position

The Construction Lab Technician at The Quality Firm is responsible for conducting tests on construction materials to ensure their quality, strength, and durability. This role involves analyzing samples, recording data, and reporting findings to engineers and project managers, requiring strong analytical skills and attention to detail in a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests on construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
• Conduct tests such as compressive strength, slump, air content, gradation, moisture content, and compaction.
• Prepare and process samples for testing according to standardized procedures and project specifications.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring it is calibrated and functioning correctly.
• Record and analyze test data, ensuring accuracy and consistency in results.
• Compare test results against project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Identify any deviations from expected results and communicate these to the appropriate project team members.
• Prepare detailed test reports, including data, observations, and recommendations.
• Maintain accurate records of all testing activities, including sample logs, equipment calibration records, and test results.
• Work closely with quality control teams to ensure that construction materials meet the required standards.
• Assist in the development and implementation of quality assurance procedures for material testing.
• Participate in internal and external audits of laboratory practices and equipment.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures in the laboratory environment.
• Ensure that all testing activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment to ensure its proper functioning.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with testing equipment, and coordinate repairs when necessary.
• Keep the laboratory clean and organized, ensuring a safe working environment.

Requirements

• Associate degree or higher in Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a construction materials testing laboratory or related environment.
• Familiarity with standard testing procedures and equipment for concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
• Strong understanding of construction materials and their properties.
• Proficient in using laboratory testing equipment and software for data analysis.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and reporting.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

• Relevant certifications (e.g., ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician, NICET Certification) are preferred.
