About the position

Becker is seeking a Construction Litigation Paralegal to join our award-winning team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys and clients through various stages of litigation, from evidence collection to trial preparation. This position requires a proactive individual who can manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. In this role, you will meet with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects. You will be responsible for drafting legal documents, including motions, affidavits, and discovery requests. Your research skills will be put to the test as you analyze statutes, regulations, and judicial decisions, providing written analysis to attorneys. You will also perform all aspects of discovery, including drafting and responding to requests and subpoenas, and organizing case files that may include evidence, exhibits, and depositions. Additionally, you will assist attorneys with trial preparation, which may involve attending trials, hearings, depositions, and mediations. On a case-specific basis, you will oversee the organization and maintenance of case files and Case Management Spreadsheets, delegating tasks to department assistants and file clerks as needed. Responsibilities

  • Meet with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects and evidence collection.
  • Draft legal documents including motions, affidavits, and discovery.
  • Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provide written analysis to attorneys.
  • Perform all aspects of discovery including drafting and responding to discovery requests and subpoenas; compiling, organizing, coding/indexing documents.
  • Prepare, organize, store, and retrieve case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, and other items.
  • Assist attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials, hearings, depositions, and mediations.
  • On a case-specific basis, oversee the organization and maintenance of the case file and Case Management Spreadsheet, delegating to and overseeing the tasks of department assistants and/or file clerks, as needed.

Requirements

  • Paralegal Certificate/Degree OR five years of litigation paralegal experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Florida and U.S. District Court laws, court procedures, and electronic discovery.
  • Experience with all stages of litigation, including intake, discovery, and trial.
  • Experience coordinating trial/arbitration logistics, including negotiating for workspace, setting up remote office space, and coordinating with clients and vendors.
  • Experience maintaining processes to collect, store, and maintain paper and electronic case files.
  • Experience with court and administrative agency filings, including electronic or e-filings.
  • Experience using e-discovery databases and litigation support software for document production, witness files, and deposition transcripts and exhibits.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to organize files and workflow.
  • Must be available for overtime and travel, as needed.
