About the position

The Assistant Design Manager at Suffolk Design plays a pivotal role in transforming the design-construction industry by managing specific technical design activities. This position involves creating and analyzing detailed drawings, 3D models, and renderings to produce fully coordinated and buildable design documents. The role emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration and the implementation of innovative processes and technologies across multiple concurrent projects.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed drawings, 3D models, and renderings to deliver fully coordinated and buildable design documentation.
  • Apply independent judgment in assessing, selecting, and employing standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for architectural projects.
  • Advance the production of schematic, design development, and construction documents drawings and specifications in compliance with project scope, schedule, cost, and design intent.
  • Assist in the preparation of project specifications by gathering, researching, and analyzing pertinent data to support competent solutions.
  • Conduct rigorous project constructability reviews during the design process, ensuring complete and coordinated documentation prior to construction.
  • Track and report progress towards internal deadlines and project milestone completion.
  • Coordinate, prepare for, and participate in project team meetings, workshops, and collaborative communications, documenting meetings and distributing action items and notes accordingly.
  • Collaborate with and coordinate the work of external design consultants, internal construction and estimating experts, and other knowledge resources to ensure project deliverables are coordinated and integrated.
  • Participate in construction administration duties such as submittal review, RFIs, ASIs, and change orders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture or related field from an accredited academic institution.
  • 3-5 years' experience in architecture; licensure-track preferred but not required.
  • LEED accreditation is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Revit-based documentation and excellent visualization, presentation, and production skills.
  • Familiarity with industry-accepted software such as Adobe CC, AutoCAD, Rhino, Enscape, Revizto, and Computation Design Tools (Dynamo, Grasshopper).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with building and zoning codes, entitlement procedures, environmental regulations, and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in architectural evaluations and problem-solving.
  • Strong desire to learn, grow, and exchange ideas in a collaborative environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Architecture licensure-track preferred but not required.
  • LEED accreditation is a plus.
