About the position

As a Data Center Construction Manager at AWS, you will oversee the construction of data centers, ensuring they are built to the highest standards of quality, cost-effectiveness, and energy efficiency. You will collaborate with various teams to manage construction projects from inception to completion, acting as Amazon's owner's representative on-site. This role involves direct interaction with construction trades and managing contractors to deliver projects that support AWS's global infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Manage construction project oversight for new builds and capital projects, including scope, quality, schedule, and budget ownership.
  • Interface directly with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout phases.
  • Negotiate with general contractors and evaluate bids and proposals accurately.
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals.
  • Conduct financial analysis of construction projects.
  • Manage construction projects aimed at increasing data center resiliency.
  • Perform constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs for new and existing data centers.
  • Oversee construction document management including submittal reviews, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing.
  • Ensure construction project quality control.
  • Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis for equipment failures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent engineering science, or 4+ years of related construction management experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plants.
  • 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience related to construction and project execution.
  • 4+ years of experience constructing electrical engineering systems and mechanical engineering systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of electrical engineering principles including switch gear, UPS, transformers, and circuit breakers.
  • Experience in the design or construction of data centers or large-scale mechanical and electrical plants.
  • Proven ability to reduce costs through creative solutions without impacting quality and reliability.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction specifications and drawings for all disciplines.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
  • Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), LEED, and/or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).
  • Experience in controls and commissioning of large-scale projects.
