About the position

The Resident Construction Manager at Hill International in Pittsburgh, PA, is responsible for overseeing construction projects, managing staff, and ensuring compliance with contract documents. This role involves maintaining communication with clients and local authorities, managing the RFI process, reviewing contractor submissions, and conducting inspections. The position requires strong leadership and project management skills to ensure successful project delivery and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Manage staff including Project Engineers, Field Inspectors, and Quality Control field staff.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with the Client's Project Manager and on-site staff.
  • Assist the contractor in interpreting contract documents to protect client interests.
  • Implement and manage an effective RFI process among stakeholders.
  • Review contractor's submittals for completeness and compliance with field conditions.
  • Monitor the contractor's material testing program for compliance with contract documents.
  • Initiate field changes and provide Independent Cost Estimates (ICEs) as needed.
  • Conduct job progress meetings weekly and other meetings as required.
  • Verify measurements of quantities for contractor progress payments.
  • Review contractor's pay estimates and ensure all required submittals are received.
  • Conduct interim and final inspections and develop punch lists based on contract requirements.
  • Coordinate contractor's schedules with the overall Project Schedule and anticipate conflicts.
  • Assist contractor in scheduling work with other contractors and agencies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management.
  • High school graduate or equivalency certificate (GED) required; engineering degree preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills for project correspondence.
  • Strong critical thinking and creativity skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, and people management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Airport experience is preferred but not required.
