About the position

The Construction Manager at TransAlta Corporation plays a crucial role in leading and managing large-scale renewable energy construction projects. This position involves providing active leadership and guidance to project teams, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality and safety standards. The Construction Manager will collaborate with various stakeholders and oversee all aspects of project planning and execution, contributing to the company's commitment to clean electricity generation.

Responsibilities

• Single accountability for planning, orchestrating, and delivering projects within the framework of TransAlta's strategy.
• Deliver top performance in all project aspects including Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), cost, schedule, functionality, performance, and reliability.
• Apply principles of loss management to minimize exposures to incidents and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental programs.
• Collaborate with Project Development teams to steward projects through development stages and gain necessary approvals.
• Lead all aspects of project execution from Final Investment Decision (FID) to commissioning and commercial operation.
• Plan and manage program scope to ensure commitments are achieved safely and within agreed parameters.
• Identify and manage project risks effectively.
• Coordinate a multifunctional engineering, supply chain, and construction team.
• Ensure appropriate levels of project governance are in place and represent the project in governance forums.
• Establish project execution and contracting strategies.

Requirements

• 15 years of relevant experience on projects with a total installed cost of $25 million or greater.
• Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders.
• On-site construction management and supervision experience.
• Capable of leading large teams and managing large construction organizations.
• Ability to develop and interpret detailed technical and commercial requirements.
• Excellent analytical skills for timely identification and resolution of variations to plan.
• Proficient interpersonal skills and effective communication with project stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively across a cross-functional team while managing conflicting priorities.
• Excellent time management, negotiation, and organizational skills.
• Skilled problem solver with adaptability to changing business needs.
• Proven knowledge and expertise in project management methodologies and tools.
• Valid provincial driver's license and clean driving record.
