About the position

S&ME is seeking a motivated and experienced Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join their Construction Services team in Greensboro, North Carolina. This role involves conducting field and laboratory testing of construction materials, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards. The technician will engage with clients, mentor junior staff, and contribute to business development efforts, impacting the community through meaningful projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction plans and specifications to ensure alignment with on-site observations.
  • Conduct and observe testing and inspections of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate.
  • Utilize advanced software like Metafield® to document reporting and testing results.
  • Calibrate equipment to industry standards to ensure precision in testing processes.
  • Conduct Special Inspection observations to enforce regulatory compliance and quality assurance on projects.
  • Maintain open communication with stakeholders to foster trust and transparency.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials.
  • Five or more active certifications including ACI Field Testing Grade I, Strength Testing Technician, Laboratory Technician, and ICC Special Inspector certifications.
  • Effective communication skills in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
