About the position

The Construction Materials Purchasing Assistant plays a vital role in the procurement of construction materials for various projects within a reputable construction company. This position involves collaborating with jobsite supervisors to ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing, maintaining efficient supply chain management, and contributing to the overall success of construction operations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the management team to identify required construction materials based on project specifications and budget constraints.
  • Research and identify potential suppliers, obtaining quotes, and negotiating prices to ensure cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality standards.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders for construction materials and track their delivery to meet project timelines.
  • Work closely with project managers and site supervisors to ensure materials are delivered according to project schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, delivery schedules, and vendor communication.
  • Coordinate with the accounts payable department to reconcile invoices and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Assist in evaluating supplier performance and maintaining positive relationships with vendors.
  • Follow company policies and procedures regarding purchasing, vendor selection, and quality control.
  • Project on-site material inventory and controls.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain Management, or certification in procurement or supply chain management is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a purchasing assistant or similar role, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with construction materials and their specifications is advantageous, especially drywall, paint, and stucco materials.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with vendors, team members, and project stakeholders effectively.
  • Good computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Excel, Dropbox, and Adobe Acrobat professional.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities and attention to detail to manage multiple purchase orders and deliveries simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a proactive and self-motivated approach to work.
  • Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License required.
