About the position

The Construction Operations Manager at Burdick Materials is responsible for overseeing and managing various construction operations, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency in all projects. This role involves coordinating with multiple teams, mentoring staff, and maintaining high standards in construction practices. The manager will report directly to the General Manager and will have direct reports including superintendents, estimators, and project managers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and environmental stewardship of construction sites.
  • Mentor and monitor staff, acting as a coach and role model.
  • Lead, inspire, and motivate teams to achieve optimal performance.
  • Oversee daily construction operations, including scheduling equipment and manpower.
  • Coordinate trucking needs with the transportation manager.
  • Estimate and manage individual projects as needed.
  • Manage superintendents, estimators, and project managers.
  • Maintain backlog reporting for asphalt, aggregate, and crew production days.
  • Document and archive project correspondence regarding safety and quality assurance.
  • Assist in managing awarded projects regarding scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Participate in budget creation and management to meet financial targets.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel and contractors to resolve construction issues.
  • Handle personnel recruitment, selection, training, and retention.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction-related experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience in construction operations, scheduling, and supervisory roles.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, project specifications, and plan set drawings.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience with estimating and accounting software.
