About the position

Goodwin Knight, LLC., a subsidiary of The Challenger Group, is seeking a Construction Project Accountant II to join our team in Colorado Springs, CO. This full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from $70,000 to $85,000, depending on experience. The Construction Project Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining and reviewing project records, supporting the operations team with budget reviews, contract changes, job costing, and the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports related to construction projects. This position is not remote and requires in-person attendance at our office in Colorado Springs. The primary operational objectives of the Construction Project Accountant include performing professional-level accounting work, maintaining budgets for approximately 10 active projects and 10 pre-development projects, and ensuring timely communication of project bank draws. The accountant will also assist with accounts payable and receivable, ensuring that invoices and payments are processed efficiently and that vendors are paid on time. Additionally, the role involves obtaining and documenting necessary insurance coverage for projects and trade partners. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting, along with a minimum of three years of accounting experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, and experience in the home building industry or construction accounting is preferred. The Construction Project Accountant must demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and possess excellent communication abilities to interact effectively with various stakeholders, including senior management, trade partners, and building departments. Responsibilities

  • Support the operations team regarding budget review, contract changes, and job costing.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports related to construction projects.
  • Perform monthly closings and maintain accounting files.
  • Prepare and organize various financial forms, reports, and analyses.
  • Maintain budgets for approximately 10 active projects and 10 pre-development projects.
  • Responsible for the monthly preparation, submission, and communication of project bank draws.
  • Assist in accounts payable by processing invoices and ensuring timely vendor payments.
  • Assist in accounts receivable to ensure timely payments are received by Goodwin Knight.
  • Obtain proper insurance coverage for projects and document necessary insurance from trade partners.
  • Provide consistent and timely management reports to the leadership team regarding each active project.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline efficiencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in accounting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
