About the position

The Construction Project Management Office Manager at Metro will lead a team of nine project managers to oversee the successful delivery of capital projects across various facilities. This role is pivotal in ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards while collaborating with internal departments, external contractors, and community stakeholders. The manager will also focus on advancing strategic goals related to sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience, making a significant impact on the community through effective project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the full lifecycle of public construction projects, ensuring they meet Metro's standards for scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Lead and mentor a team of project managers, providing support and professional growth opportunities.
  • Guide the preparation, negotiation, and administration of project contracts, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies for project delivery.
  • Serve as the key liaison for internal stakeholders, maintaining clear communication on project status and risks.
  • Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations and champion quality control efforts.
  • Deliver timely project updates to senior leadership and maintain thorough documentation throughout all project phases.
  • Develop and implement a robust internal training curriculum for construction project management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Public Administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years in construction project management, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role, ideally within a public or government setting.
  • Deep knowledge of project budgeting, scheduling, risk assessment, and quality control.
  • Proven experience in planning and executing capital improvement plans.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex project information to diverse audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • PMP, CCM, or other relevant certifications.
  • 7 years of experience working in construction project management.
  • Previous experience working in a union environment.
  • Experience in using portfolio management and/or project management software systems.
