About the position

The Construction Project Manager at Wawa is responsible for overseeing the entire construction process for new stores, remodels, and special projects in the North Florida/Georgia region. This role involves managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The position requires strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills to effectively liaise with contractors, vendors, and governmental agencies throughout the construction lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the construction build process from permitting through project closeout.
  • Implement existing construction processes and identify improvements to build efficiency and cost savings.
  • Manage a capital spend budget of $15M-$28M annually.
  • Ensure projects are completed on budget and mitigate change orders to eliminate project overages.
  • Create and manage individual project schedules, ensuring all contractors and vendors are included and scheduled appropriately.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Wawa and governmental agencies for building permits and final certificates of occupancy.
  • Manage developers through the turnover process for pad ready and pad complete sites.
  • Coordinate with landlords on all lease requirements and manage third-party vendors throughout the construction process.
  • Review all drawings and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with Wawa's standards.
  • Inspect job sites for safety violations and enforce Wawa's safety policy.
  • Produce weekly project updates to communicate status, issues, and risks.
  • Manage warranty periods for equipment and construction items.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Commercial Construction Management, Engineering, or Project Supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of project scheduling and management, construction disciplines and techniques, drawings and specifications, and risk management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be local to the North Florida Region or willing to relocate.
  • Ability to travel up to 80%, including 2-3 days of overnight travel.
