About the position

The Rogers Group is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Construction Purchasing Manager. This role is critical in overseeing the purchasing procedures related to commercial construction projects. The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for conducting bid evaluations, creating budgets, negotiating with vendors, selecting contractors, and managing contract documentation. The primary goal of this position is to secure the best value at a fair and reasonable cost while managing all contracts, work orders, purchase orders, change orders, and expense controls. In this role, the Purchasing Manager will gather invitations to bid, blueprints, specifications, and related documents to understand the scope of work for bidding. They will develop budgets and proposals for commercial construction projects efficiently and in a timely manner. The position requires careful reading of plans, specifications, and addendums to create accurate project budget estimates. The Purchasing Manager will also maintain and operate the procurement and contract management system (RedTeam) on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that all relevant job-specific templates and trade folders are organized and accessible. The Purchasing Manager will be involved in both preconstruction and construction duties, including managing subcontractor bids, evaluating pricing methodologies, and maintaining client and subcontractor relations. They will assist Project Managers with trade-related questions and concerns, prepare job start packages, and ensure that all deadlines and schedules assigned by the Director of Pre-Construction are met. This position requires strong leadership skills to lead the Purchasing Team effectively and ensure that all purchasing activities align with the company's goals and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct bid evaluations and budget creation for commercial construction projects.
  • Negotiate between vendors and select contractors for various projects.
  • Manage all contracts, work orders, purchase orders, change orders, and expense controls.
  • Gather invitations to bid, blueprints, specifications, and related documents for projects.
  • Develop budgets and proposals efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, and addendums to create accurate project budget estimates.
  • Maintain and operate the procurement and contract management system (RedTeam).
  • Create RFQ (Requests for Quote) with detailed scope of work per trade.
  • Evaluate subcontractor bids for completeness and pricing methodology.
  • Assist Project Managers with trade-related questions and concerns.
  • Prepare job start packages for Project Managers and present at Pre-Start meetings.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial construction bidding experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to solicit/scope subcontractors and prepare bids ranging from $500k to $6M.
  • Full understanding of all CSI divisions and construction knowledge.
  • Experience with hard bidding, budgeting, and proposal preparation for retail, offices, and amenity centers.
  • Excellent communication skills, time management, and organizational techniques.
  • Strong leadership skills to lead the Purchasing Team effectively.
  • Construction degree is preferred.
