About the position

The Construction Supervisor for Design and Construction (D&C) at CN is responsible for overseeing construction activities related to D&C and Public Works projects. This role ensures that all construction work is conducted according to engineering practices, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The supervisor will manage project schedules, budgets, and compliance, while also coordinating with various departments to ensure successful project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure projects are completed as per plans and specifications while respecting the schedule and budget.
  • Audit project sites for safety compliance.
  • Track material delivery and construction progress and resources engaged.
  • Manage schedule and budget of construction projects.
  • Inspect projects throughout construction and upon completion to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Review and provide comments on construction plans and tender documents.
  • Provide field direction to contractors and ensure proper execution of project contract documents including change orders.
  • Coordinate work between various departments including Transportation, Network Planning, Production, and Engineering.
  • Handle work block coordination for construction.
  • Conduct weekly project management meetings.
  • Develop project cash flows.
  • Handle and track budgets for project-related work.
  • Validate all invoices and material charges.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in construction, civil engineering, or construction management.
  • Experience with surveying and establishing control points.
  • Experience with quality assurance.
  • Demonstrated experience with oversight of budgets and schedules.
  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
  • Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG) Qualified.
  • Civil Engineering Degree (any designation for these above would be considered an asset).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction and maintenance, operating rules, engineering standards, and operation measures.
  • Solid computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Knowledge of Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) (any designation for these above would be considered an asset).
