As part of the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union 769, this position is subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employees will be expected to perform a variety of essential functions, including estimating materials and workload for projects, conducting maintenance on city buildings, performing roadway repairs, and restoring plumbing systems. The role also involves general carpentry, installation of doors and hardware, and completing minor renovation projects independently. In addition to the hands-on work, employees will be responsible for developing project proposals and creating cost estimates. The position requires a proactive approach to property maintenance, including inspecting and repairing playground equipment and performing general upkeep tasks. The City of Fort Lauderdale offers a competitive benefits package, including participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS), which provides both investment and pension options for employees. New hires will automatically be enrolled in FRS, contributing 3% of their salary towards retirement savings. Furthermore, employees may benefit from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, which can forgive the remaining balance on student loans after 120 qualifying payments while employed full-time with the City.
